There's something about the lack of sunshine that entices me to do more yoga. Darker mornings, longer nights ... it adds to the cozy feeling when I reach for my mat to practice.
On Friday, my sister and I went to meet up with our favourite instructor at Life Time in Mississauga, Suzie Saya. Suzie's classes aren't just the typical flow. She incorporates - in the most enjoyable way possible - ab workouts, John Mayer and anecdotes (in that order).
We spent the afternoon attempting some over ambitious postures and discussing the benefits of breathing. Paying attention to your inhales and exhales can deepen your postures but it also creates your natural flow, "a yoga dance" as Suzie refers to it. With an approximate history of about 4000 years, yoga has proven to hold many health benefits, a personal favourite being the elimination of stress and anxiety.
If you have the chance to attend one of Suzie's practices - I highly recommend you do. There's a reason this girl's picture hangs earnestly on the wall of Square One's Lululemon.
